Characterization of Tl2NaYCl6:Ce scintillation crystals as gamma-ray detectors

In this paper the growth of a 16mm diameter Ce-doped Tl$_2$NaYCl$_6$ and its characterization as gamma-ray detector are reported. With 16 mm dia. x 8 cylindrical sample, energy resolution 4.1% (FWHM) at 662 keV light yield 27,800ph/MeV measured. Decay times 91 ns (34%), 462 (52%), 2.1 microseconds (15%) calculated. The x-ray excited emission spectrum exhibits bands that similar to other Tl-based elpasolite scintillators like Tl$_2$NaYCl$_6$:Ce.
